Cambodian police arrest Internet Pirate

Cambodian Police spokesperson today said that the arrest of PirateBay founder, Anakata, was performed in the capital Phnom Penh and at the request of the Swedish Government.

One of the founders of torrent site PirateBay, Anakata (27 year old swedish citizen, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg), was arrested by Cambodian Police on Thusrday.

During 2009, Anakata was convicted by a Swedish court for criminal copyright contravention and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and fined R9 million, Anakata moved to Cambodia and was supposed to start serving his one year prison sentence on the 2nd of January 2012, but failed to show up. He also failed to appear in court regarding an appeal and his lawyer Ola Salomonsson, said that he was too sick at the time to attend court and that since then he has been in poor health.
