6G promises to be hundreds of times faster than Wi-Fi you use today. Scientists have discovered that they can turn a laser (optical light) into a device capable of modulating at microwave frequencies. They discovered that a laser allows multiple and different pieces of information to be transmitted through a single frequency channel.

How this discovery works practically is that light inside a laser oscillates at microwave frequencies. These  oscillations are externally modulated and encoded onto a carrier signal.
