Microsoft faces R57 Billion fine

28 Million EU customers were not given the choice of other browser systems than Internet Explorer (in Windows 7).

The European Union have threatened Microsoft with a fine of around R57 Billion Rands for non compliance with a 2009 agreement to provide customers choice of non vendor locked in and competing web browsers. The amount of R57 Billion is calculated as 10 percent of the annual Microsoft turnover of $US 74 Billion.

Microsoft has apologised to the EU and blamed a technical error for the removal of the browser choice option.
