Blackberry set to lay off 2000 workers

Reportedly RIM (Research in motion) is planning to lay off around 2000 staff as it restructures globally. The Canadian Globe and Mail reports that Blackberry has seen a decline in smartphone sales as Apple grew dramatically over the same period and Android also muscles into the market.

Blackberry is said to have only a 7 percent Global share of the smartphone market and needs to regroup and restructure internationally to survive in the very competitive mobile space.

But RIM still has a trick or two up it’s sleeve as the acquisitions that saw Blackberry double in size also brought technology that will be released in the new Blackberry 10
