Russia is becoming the latest country to censor the Internet. The Russian parliament passed legislation that would see the creation of a specific agency that would maintain a list of banned domains. The legislation now has to be signed by President Vladimir Putin, then it becomes law.
Countries that already enforce censorship, like China, is also censoring political and ideological as well as ideas that are not supported by the Chinese Government. Originally Internet was not as deeply censored in China as it is today, it was a gradual process that started with Child pornography and malware websites which grew into what exists today.
Some European countries have even made ridiculous demands from Google to have websites of opposing political candidates removed or taken down from search engine results.
